Enterprise Skills
Using initiative:
I used initiative when I visited a variety of collage open days to insure that I made the correct decision on where I would attend as well as the courses that I would do.
Working independently: I was required to work independently in a lifeguard course final exam, where I had to react to a random situation created by the examiner and apply the correct first aid to the "casualty" quickly.
Applying self-motivation to perform tasks:
I had to motivate myself during and in the months leading up to exam season to revise and prepare myself as best I could, even staying after school to finish coursework or attend revision sessions this also applied in the holidays not just in the school term.
Self-evaluating ability to meet deadlines:
In a DT course I used this skill extensively because after I would assemble a new piece of the non-powered speaker I had to design and make, I had to assess myself to see if it would be of high enough quality to be part of the final product. This assessment also had to be completed within a strict timeframe as I had weekly deadlines to meet as to not fall behind on the course as a whole.
Working with others, delegating, compromising:
During the lifeguard course final exam a situation was given by the examiner to remove a casualty with a spinal injury safely from the pool, this requires a team of four, I was selected to be the first to enter the pool so communication with the other members of my team was my responsibility, in order for the casualty to be removed safely each member has to move at exactly the right time otherwise the casualty could be injured further.
Applying communication, interpersonal, written communications:
I used written as well as verbal communications when applying for collage places as well as the NCS and lifeguard courses.
Problem solving:
On the NCS summer programme I as well as my team had to use problem solving skills when given a task such as assembling a raft, we had to find out the best and most effective way to fasten the materials supplied to us into something that could make it to the other side of a small pond.
