04 Primary Reserch to Generate Ideas for a Media Product or Service

My Product

My product will be a podcast reviewing/recommending Netflix original tv shows available on Podbean and Youtube: explaining weather or not they are worth watching as some of them are quite long these will include shows like: YOU, the Haunting of Hill House. It will be a simple quick review not too in depth and I will try to reveal as minimal plot points as possible so it is still worth them watching after watching the review. It will be aimed at 16-20 year olds due to most of the shows having scenes with extensive violence, sex and adult themes.
I will also have a follow up episode where I properly review the show with someone else that has seen it noting the best episodes, actors and our favoured parts.

Theses are the links for my primary research methods.

03 Understanding New Digital Media Services

Providing Digital Training Skills to a New Group-Google Digital Garage:

All courses are free, which is ideal because it is aimed at people who are looking to boost their CV before applying for a job so eighteen to twenty-five year olds that have an interest in carriers that involve computer based skills like business, marketing and design. The courses teach a variety of skills from storytelling and design to the fundamentals of digital marketing. The main advantage of Google digital garage is that the courses are free and they don't have to take long periods of time to complete they can be as short as one hour. The courses are also certified which means they are worth doing and you are able to show your achievements to a potential employer in the form of a certificate, it is also easy to start this course as there is no sign up, payment or proof of age required.

Providing an Analogue to Digital Transfer Service to a New Client-Audio Restored:

It is a business that digitalises a variety of old audio products from the 70's like vinyl, tape and shellac. The prises for these transfers are quite cheap most are around £40 however some can be up to £100, this is for the largest and rarest reels to reel transfers. The business its self is unique as well as its reel to reel transfer service there are not many businesses that can transfer the variety of audio products to digital files as at Audio Restored. The service is aimed at people that have an interest in vintage audio equipment and have an old unusable product that they want to be restored or a digital copy of it for sound editing or ease of listening to it on a mobile instead of a large reel or having to bring a cassette player around with you to play a tape. This is properly often older men who bought the equipment when it was brand new and have kept it but it has been damaged or is too difficult to play on the analogue devices that are required to play tapes, reels etc.

02 Understanding New Digital Media Products

Mobile app- Instagram:

It was started on 6/10/10, it has 800 million users worldwide
The app is a photo/short video sharing app where people can create personal or business accounts and share pictures of their lives, Accounts that you like can be followed which means that their most recent posts will show up in your feed where you can like and comment on them, this is the same for a newer feature called stories this is similar to a post but only stays for up for a maximum of twenty-four hours, if you like the story format but want to keep that story on your profile without having to post a picture or video then another way it can be saved is in the highlights. The direct message . This app is better than others like it, as the layout is more clear also messaging features are included in the app it doesn't require an additional app like Facebook does.

Website- YouTube:

Set-up day14/02/05, Number of users: 1,300,000,000-A website where channels can be created by anyone and post videos about what they are passionate about, people who watch them can subscribe to the channel and 'like' the videos. This app is better than the others that are similar to it because of the regular updates to the algorithm, that mean the channels you have subscribed to have their most recent videos show up on your feed, also other videos that are related to ones you often watch are recommended as well as this the trending section shows the most popular videos of the last few days. There are also prises for the creators when they attain a large number of subscribers.

Podcast- Kermode and Mayo's film review:

It was started in 2001, Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo review the latest films of the week on a Friday afternoon 2pm to 4pm. What makes this better than other film review sites is that Mark

Kermode is a professional and renowned film critic so his opinion is valued more than most, he also words it in a way that is accessible to the average person not just people familiar with film jargon. The show is described as the BBC's flagship film programme, this could be due to the fact that there are always at least two people reviewing the films with occasional celebrity actor guests  There are also special versions of the show that air for new years and Christmas, they include the film of the year where Mark and Simon decide their favourite film from the year.

YouTube channels-Fitness Blender:

Subscriber count 5,400,000 Started on 01/19/10 It shows a variety of physical exercises and workouts that people can copy to get fitter and stronger. The unique features are that not only do they show exercises to lose weight but also nutrition plans and the right food to eat to achieve your goals also how to prepare them. This channel is better than others that I have seen because there are two people involved in the creation of content one male and one female, this is ideal for both men and women who watch the videos because there is something they can do that suits them. In other fitness channels they only focus on one gender, this is inferior as by doing it the way the Fitness blender has they help more people as well as grow a larger fan base.

01 Enterprise Skills

Enterprise Skills

Using initiative:

I used initiative when I visited a variety of collage open days to insure that I made the correct decision on where I would attend as well as the courses that I would do.

Working independently: I was required to work independently in a lifeguard course final exam, where I had to react to a random situation created by the examiner and apply the correct first aid to the "casualty" quickly.

Applying self-motivation to perform tasks:

I had to motivate myself during and in the months leading up to exam season to revise and prepare myself as best I could, even staying after school to finish coursework or attend revision sessions this also applied in the holidays not just in the school term.

Self-evaluating ability to meet deadlines:

In a DT course I used this skill extensively because after I would assemble a new piece of the non-powered speaker I had to design and make, I had to assess myself to see if it would be of high enough quality to be part of the final product. This assessment also had to be completed within a strict timeframe as I had weekly deadlines to meet as to not fall behind on the course as a whole.

Working with others, delegating, compromising:

During the lifeguard course final exam a situation was given by the examiner to remove a casualty with a spinal injury safely from the pool, this requires a team of four, I was selected to be the first to enter the pool so communication with the other members of my team was my responsibility, in order for the casualty to be removed safely each member has to move at exactly the right time otherwise the casualty could be injured further.

Applying communication, interpersonal, written communications:

I used written as well as verbal communications when applying for collage places as well as the NCS and lifeguard courses.

Problem solving:

On the NCS summer programme I as well as my team had to use problem solving skills when given a task such as assembling a raft, we had to find out the best and most effective way to fasten the materials supplied to us into something that could make it to the other side of a small pond.
